How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter the total vertical Rise (inches) the ramp must overcome — measure from the lower landing to the upper floor level.
  2. Set Slope Ratio (1:X) to 12 for ADA compliance (the default); lower values create steeper ramps only acceptable for temporary use.
  3. Set Landing Every (ft) to 30 ft to match ADA requirements; reduce if space is constrained.
  4. Review Ramp Run Length (ft) — this is the horizontal distance the ramp will occupy.
  5. Check Landings Required to confirm how many 5 ft level rest areas are needed.
  6. Use Total Handrail Length (ft) to order handrail material; required on both sides when rise exceeds 6 inches.
