About this calculator
This calculator runs one of six independent formulas depending on the selected mode (lines 25-169): "What is X% of Y?" (the default, mode 0), "X is what % of Y?", percent change from X to Y, increase X by Y%, decrease X by Y%, or the reverse "Y is X% of what number?" Only one mode's formula runs per calculation — First Value and Second Value are reinterpreted completely differently depending on which mode is active (in mode 0 they're a percentage and a total; in mode 2 they're an original and a new value), and outputs from other modes, like Absolute Change or Multiplier, are simply absent from the result rather than computed and hidden. In the default mode, Result = (First Value ÷ 100) × Second Value (line 31) — a product, so First Value and Second Value affect Result identically: nudging either one up and down by 10% moves Result by exactly the same 20% swing, since scaling either factor in a product by a given percentage scales the product by that same percentage, regardless of which factor it is.
This calculator does not carry a running history between modes — switching from one mode to another does not translate your previous inputs into the new mode's terms, and it does not validate that percentage inputs stay within a conventional 0-100 range, since negative or over-100 percentages are valid arithmetic here even if they wouldn't describe a real-world share.

Frequently Asked Questions
In the default 'What is X% of Y?' mode, does the percentage or the total number matter more?
Neither dominates — they matter equally. Result = (First Value ÷ 100) × Second Value (line 31) is a product of the two, and nudging either factor up and down by 10% produces the exact same 20% swing in the Result, because scaling either side of a product by a given percentage scales the whole product by that same percentage.
If I switch from 'What is X% of Y?' to 'Percentage change from X to Y,' do my numbers carry over correctly?
Not in any meaningful sense — First Value and Second Value are just re-read under completely different labels. In mode 0 they mean "percentage" and "total" (line 29-30); in mode 2 the same two fields mean "original value" and "new value" (line 77-78), so the same numeric entries produce an entirely different calculation rather than a converted version of the first one.
Does the calculator reject a percentage input over 100 or below 0?
No — First Value and Second Value are used exactly as entered in every mode's formula (for example line 31), with no clamping or validation against a 0-100 range. A value like 150 or -20 is accepted and calculated through normally, which is mathematically valid even though it wouldn't describe an ordinary percentage share.
Are the 'Increase X by Y%' and 'Decrease X by Y%' modes just mirror images of each other?
Structurally yes: both take a Base Value and a percentage and compute a fixed adjustment amount before applying it (lines 104 and 128), just with the sign flipped — one adds the adjustment to the base and the other subtracts it. Each also reports its own Multiplier output (line 112 or 136), showing the equivalent single scaling factor (for example ×1.2 for a 20% increase, or ×0.8 for a 20% decrease).
