How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the workpiece weight (lbs) to determine quench oil volume needed.
- Select the steel type: O1 Tool Steel, W1 Water-Hardening, A2 Air-Hardening, or 1084 Carbon Steel.
- Set the oil-to-metal ratio (typically 10:1 or higher to prevent overheating the bath).
- Review the recommended quench medium and Peak Oil Temperature to ensure the bath does not exceed safe limits.
- Use Start and Peak oil temperatures from the chart to plan your quench tank size and monitoring.
