How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the target glaze thickness in millimeters — 0.5–1.0 mm is standard for most studio glazes.
- Measure the specific gravity of your mixed glaze with a hydrometer and enter it (typically 1.4–1.6 for dipping glazes).
- Select the viscosity level: 1 for thin/runny, 2 for medium, or 3 for thick gel-like glaze.
- Read the recommended dip time in seconds for achieving your target thickness.
- If brush-applying, use the brush coats output to know how many coats to apply.
- Use the glaze per square inch value to estimate total glaze needed for your piece surface area.
