How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter the layer thickness in millimeters — UV resin is typically applied in thin layers (0.5–3 mm).
  2. Enter your UV lamp wattage (36 W nail lamp vs. 54 W professional lamp make a significant difference).
  3. Enter the distance from the lamp to the resin surface in inches.
  4. Select the resin clarity: clear (1.0×), tinted/translucent (1.5×), or opaque/heavy pigment (2.5×).
  5. Read the cure time in seconds and the recommended post-cure time to ensure full hardness.
  6. If the cure time seems long, reduce layer thickness or move the lamp closer to the resin surface.

What each input means

Layer Thickness
Thickness of the resin layer in millimeters. UV resin cures from the surface down; thicker layers need more time. Max 3-4mm for clear resin.
UV Lamp Wattage
Wattage of your UV lamp. Common sizes: 6W (pen light), 36W (nail lamp), 48-100W (professional curing lamp).
Lamp Distance
Distance from the UV lamp to the resin surface. Closer = faster cure. Most nail lamps are 1-2 inches away.
Resin Clarity
Pigments and dyes block UV light, requiring longer exposure. Opaque resin may not cure at depths beyond 1mm.

How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Identify Input Parameters
    4 parameters
    Layer Thickness = 1, UV Lamp Wattage = 36, Lamp Distance = 2, Resin Clarity = 1 = 4 input(s) provided
  2. Calculate Cure Time
    Cure Time
    60 = 60
  3. Calculate Cure Time
    Cure Time
    1 = 1
  4. Calculate Resin Clarity
    Resin Clarity = clarity.label
    Clear = Clear
