How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter Land Use Type, General Office, and Retail / Shopping Center.
  2. Set Restaurant, Residential Apartment, and Medical Office.
  3. Adjust Gross Floor Area, Dwelling Units as needed.
  4. Review the Recommended Spaces result.
  5. Use Base Demand (ITE) (spaces) and Peak Demand (spaces) to inform your decision.

How the result changes with Gross Floor Area

650,1751,918
900,0502,655

What each input means

Land Use Type
Select the primary land use. Rates are based on ITE Parking Generation Manual.
Gross Floor Area
Total gross floor area of the building. Not used for residential (uses dwelling units instead).
Dwelling Units
Number of residential units (only used for residential land use type).
Shared Parking Reduction
Reduction for shared parking in mixed-use developments. Typically 10-30%.
Transit Mode Share
Estimated percentage of trips shifted to transit, reducing parking need.

How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Identify Input Parameters
    4 parameters
    Land Use Type = 1, Gross Floor Area = 50000, Dwelling Units = 0, Shared Parking Reduction = 0 = 5 input(s) provided
  2. Calculate Recommended Spaces
    Recommended Spaces = ceil(adjustedSpaces)
    148 = 148
  3. Calculate Base Demand
    174 = 174
  4. Calculate Peak Demand
    Peak Demand = ceil(peakSpaces)
    148 = 148
