Baby Sleep Schedule Calculator
Get age-appropriate sleep schedules for babies and toddlers. See recommended bedtime, nap times, and total sleep needs by age.
About this calculator
Sleep needs and nap structure change substantially over a baby's first several years, and this calculator maps your baby's age in months to widely used age-band guidance: newborns through 3 months typically need the most total sleep, spread across the most naps; by 4-11 months naps consolidate to around three; by 12-24 months most babies are down to two naps; by 2-5 years, one nap is typical, tapering to none as sleep consolidates into a single overnight block by the time a child is past their fifth year. Alongside recommended total sleep for that age band, the calculator suggests a bedtime and, where applicable, one to four nap windows spaced through the day -- all built backward and forward from the morning wake time you enter, since a consistent wake time is one of the most reliable anchors for building an infant sleep routine.
Suggested bedtime is calculated by counting back from your wake time by the age-appropriate amount of expected overnight sleep, and nap start times are spaced at typical wake-windows after the morning wake-up. These are general developmental guidelines, not a diagnosis or a rigid schedule -- individual babies vary meaningfully in exactly how much sleep they need and how quickly they consolidate naps, and any persistent sleep concern is worth discussing with your pediatrician.

How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your baby's age in months (0–72).
- Select your typical morning wake time.
- Review Recommended Total Sleep hours for your baby's developmental stage.
- Use Suggested Bedtime and the Nap outputs (up to four, depending on age) to build a daily routine.
- Adjust the wake time input to see how bedtime shifts with earlier or later mornings.
What each input means
- Baby's Age
- Age in months.
- Morning Wake Time
- Typical morning wake-up hour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the number of recommended naps drop as my baby gets older?
Nap consolidation is a normal part of sleep development -- younger babies need sleep spread across more, shorter periods because they can't yet stay awake as long between rests, while older babies and toddlers can handle longer stretches of wakefulness, so the same total sleep need gets met with fewer, longer naps until daytime sleep is no longer needed at all by around age five.
How is the suggested bedtime calculated from my baby's wake time?
Suggested bedtime is your entered wake time counted backward by the age-appropriate amount of expected overnight sleep for your baby's age band. A consistent morning wake time is one of the most reliable anchors for building a stable sleep schedule, which is why this calculator builds bedtime and nap timing around it rather than the reverse.
Does my baby's exact age in months change which sleep guidance applies?
Yes -- recommended total sleep, nap count, and nap length all shift at specific age thresholds (roughly 3 months, 11 months, 24 months, and 60 months) as babies and toddlers move through recognized developmental sleep stages. A baby just under one of those thresholds and one just over it can see meaningfully different guidance even though their ages are close.
What if my baby doesn't follow this schedule exactly?
That's expected -- these are general age-band guidelines drawn from typical infant sleep development, not a rigid prescription, and individual babies vary in exactly how much sleep they need and how fast they consolidate naps. Persistent sleep difficulties, or a pattern that seems well outside these ranges, are worth discussing with your pediatrician rather than diagnosing from a calculator.
