Yield Farming APY Calculator
Convert APR to actual APY based on compounding frequency. See how daily, weekly, or monthly compounding affects your DeFi yield farming returns.
About this calculator
The Yield Farming APY Calculator converts an advertised APR (annual percentage rate, the nominal rate before compounding) into Effective APY (annual percentage yield, the actual return after compounding is applied) using the standard compound-interest formula: APY = (1 + APR/n)^n - 1, where n is the number of compounding periods per year implied by the selected frequency (365 for daily, 52 for weekly, 12 for monthly, 1 for yearly/no compounding). This is the same math that separates a savings account's APR from its APY, just applied to DeFi yield farming's typically much higher headline rates. At realistic, moderate APRs, Compounding Frequency has a modest effect on the resulting APY — at 10% APR, daily compounding produces only about 5% more APY than yearly compounding at the same rate. That effect grows dramatically, not less, as APR climbs: at this calculator's 100% APR default, daily compounding produces roughly 72% more APY than yearly; at the extreme APRs some DeFi pools advertise (thousands of percent), the gap between daily and yearly compounding at the identical APR can span dozens of orders of magnitude, because the (1 + APR/n)^n formula raises an already-large base to a power set by the compounding frequency itself.
Compounding Boost makes this directly visible — it grows explosively with APR at any fixed compounding frequency, which is the same mechanism that makes the choice of frequency increasingly consequential, not increasingly irrelevant, the higher the advertised APR goes. The resulting APY and Projected Earnings figures at those extremes can reach astronomically large values that are illustrative of the math rather than a realistic expectation of actual returns, since such headline APRs are rarely sustained and typically reflect newly launched or thinly liquid pools rather than durable yield. Investment Amount and Farm Duration have no effect on the Effective APY percentage itself — they only scale Projected Earnings and Total Value once the APY is known.

How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the deposit amount in USD and the advertised APR.
- Set the compounding frequency: daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly (no compounding).
- Enter the farm duration in days you plan to keep funds deposited.
- Review the effective APY after compounding, plus the daily yield and projected earnings over the duration.
- Compare the compounding boost and total value across pools, but factor in impermanent loss and smart contract risk for accurate comparison.
How the result changes with APR
| APR | Effective APY | Projected Earnings |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | 64.82% | $6,481.57 |
| 75 | 111.54% | $11,153.72 |
| 150 | 346.79% | $34,679.35 |
| 250 | 1,107.91% | $110,791.07 |

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between APR and APY in this calculator?
APR is the nominal annual rate before compounding is applied — the headline number the farm or pool advertises. Effective APY is the actual annual return you'd realize once compounding is factored in, computed as (1 + APR/n)^n - 1, where n is how many times per year rewards compound based on the frequency you select. APY is always equal to or higher than APR whenever there's any compounding at all.
Does Compounding Frequency matter more or less as APR gets more extreme?
More, not less. At realistic, moderate APRs, switching from yearly to daily compounding raises the resulting APY by a modest amount — around 5% more APY at a 10% APR — because compounding more often only lets a modest amount of interest earn interest sooner. At the extremely high APRs some DeFi pools advertise, the (1 + APR/n)^n formula raises an already-huge base to a power set by the compounding frequency, so the gap between daily and yearly compounding widens dramatically: about 72% more APY at this calculator's 100% APR default, and potentially dozens of orders of magnitude apart at the 10,000% APR extreme of the declared range. Compounding Frequency becomes the single most consequential input, not the least, once APR gets large.
Are the huge APY numbers at high APR inputs realistic?
No — they're a mathematically accurate illustration of how compound interest scales, not a realistic return expectation. Extremely high advertised APRs in DeFi typically come from newly launched or thinly liquid pools and are rarely sustained for a full year; the astronomical Effective APY and Projected Earnings figures this calculator shows at those inputs demonstrate what the formula produces, not what an investor should actually expect to receive.
Does the amount I invest change my Effective APY?
No. Effective APY depends only on APR and Compounding Frequency — Investment Amount has no effect on the percentage figure at all. Investment Amount only comes into play afterward, when it's multiplied by the already-determined APY (and the farm duration fraction) to produce Daily Yield, Projected Earnings, and Total Value in dollar terms.
Does Farm Duration affect my Effective APY?
No. Effective APY is always expressed as an annualized rate and doesn't change based on how long you plan to stay in the farm. Farm Duration only affects Projected Earnings and Total Value, by scaling the annual APY down to the fraction of a year (Farm Duration in days divided by 365) that you're actually invested.
