How to Use This Calculator
- Enter tooth type and desired bracket height (mm from incisal edge or cusp tip).
- Enter torque, angulation, and in/out values from the prescription bracket data.
- Read the ideal bracket center placement (mm from a reference landmark).
- Use the positioning guide to transfer bracket placement to the clinical bonding procedure.
- Verify placement against a bracket placement gauge or digital scanning reference.
How the result changes with Clinical Crown Height (mm)
| Clinical Crown Height (mm) | Bracket Height from Incisal/Occlusal (mm) |
|---|---|
| 5 | 2.3 |
| 7.5 | 3.4 |
| 11 | 5 |
| 13 | 5.9 |
What each input means
- Tooth Type
- 1=Central incisor, 2=Lateral incisor, 3=Canine, 4=1st Premolar, 5=2nd Premolar, 6=1st Molar.
- Arch
- 0 = Maxillary (upper), 1 = Mandibular (lower).
- Clinical Crown Height (mm)
- Measured clinical crown height from gingival margin to incisal edge or occlusal surface.
- Prescription System
- 0 = MBT, 1 = Roth, 2 = Damon.
- Overbite (mm)
- Vertical overbite in mm. Negative values indicate open bite.
- Bolton Compensation (mm)
- Bolton discrepancy compensation adjustment in mm.
What each result means
- Bracket Height from Incisal/Occlusal (mm)
- Recommended bracket placement height from the incisal edge or occlusal surface.
- Standard Prescription Height (mm)
- Standard bracket height for this tooth without modifications.
- Distance from Gingival Margin (mm)
- Distance from the gingival margin to bracket center.
- Offset from Crown Center (mm)
- Bracket position relative to the center of the clinical crown. Positive = more incisal.
- Crown Height Ratio
- Ratio of actual crown height to average. >1 = longer crown, <1 = shorter.
- Overbite Adjustment (mm)
- Height adjustment applied for overbite or open bite correction.
How this is calculated
Worked example, using the default values
- Identify Input Parameters4 parametersTooth Type = 1, Arch = 0, Clinical Crown Height (mm) = 10, Prescription System = 0 = 6 input(s) provided
- Calculate Bracket Height from Incisal/OcclusalBracket Height from Incisal/Occlusal = max(2.0, min(7.0, finalHeight))4.5 = 4.5
- Calculate Standard Prescription HeightStandard Prescription Height4.5 = 4.5
- Calculate Distance from Gingival MarginDistance from Gingival Margin5.5 = 5.5
