How to Use This Calculator
- Enter Case Water Capacity, Bullet Weight, and Powder Density.
- Set Start Charge, Max Charge, and Charge Step.
- Review the Load Steps result.
- Use Est. Start Velocity (fps) and Est. Max Velocity (fps) to inform your decision.
- Use the chart to visualize the results and explore different scenarios by adjusting inputs.
How the result changes with Max Charge
| Max Charge | Load Steps |
|---|---|
| 17 | -47 |
| 45 | 9 |
| 80 | 79 |
| 109 | 137 |
What each input means
- Case Water Capacity
- Case capacity in grains of water (e.g., .308 Win ≈ 56 gr).
- Bullet Weight
- Bullet weight in grains.
- Powder Density
- Powder bulk density relative to water (most powders 0.85-1.05).
- Start Charge
- Starting powder charge weight per published data.
- Max Charge
- Maximum powder charge per published data. Never exceed.
- Charge Step
- Powder charge increment between load steps.
