Timezone Converter

Convert times between world cities with an interactive timezone map. See colored timezone bands, city markers, and time differences at a glance.

Eighty-eight cities cover every offset on the map, from Baker Island at UTC-12 round to Kiritimati at UTC+14, and the awkward fractional zones are all represented — Tehran at +3:30, Kabul at +4:30, India at +5:30, Kathmandu at +5:45, Yangon at +6:30 and central Australia at +9:30. Choose a source city, a destination and a time on the 24-hour clock, and the engine subtracts one stored offset from the other, applies the difference, and wraps across midnight while telling you which way the date moved: 22:00 in New York lands at 12:00 in Tokyo the next day, and the return trip is tagged as a day earlier. What you must know before trusting a result is that every offset in this table is a standard-time offset. Daylight saving is not modelled at all. New York is pinned at UTC-5 and labelled EST year round, London stays on GMT through the British summer, so for much of the year and in the many countries that shift their clocks, an answer here will be an hour out. The fractional zones are handled precisely: the Time Difference row states them exactly, reporting +10.5 hours from New York to Delhi, and the converted clock time reflects that same fraction, landing on the half hour, quarter hour, or 45-minute mark rather than rounding down to the hour. The abbreviations collide too, as they do in reality — CST covers Chicago and Shanghai alike, IST serves India and Sri Lanka, AST covers Halifax and Riyadh. No calendar date is collected, so nothing here reflects a country changing its offset, and cities outside the list are unavailable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this account for daylight saving time?

No. Every city carries its standard offset only, which means New York stays on EST and London on GMT all year. During the months when either observes summer time, add an hour to that side of the conversion yourself before relying on the result.

How does it show that the date has changed?

Any conversion that crosses midnight is tagged directly in the output, so a result may read 12:00 followed by a plus-one-day marker, or a minus-one-day marker travelling the other way. That flag is relative to the time you entered, not to any calendar date.

How are half-hour and quarter-hour zones handled?

Precisely. The Time Difference row reports the exact fractional offset, something like +10.5 hours, and the converted clock reading carries that same fraction into the minutes, so India, Nepal, Iran, Afghanistan, Myanmar and central Australia land on the correct half hour or quarter hour rather than rounding to the top of the hour.

Two cities show the same abbreviation — is that an error?

No, the clashes are real. CST means Central Standard Time in Chicago and China Standard Time in Shanghai, IST covers both India and Sri Lanka, and AST is used for both Atlantic and Arabia. Always read the UTC offset rather than the letters.

Which zones are the extremes?

Baker Island at UTC-12 and Kiritimati at UTC+14 sit twenty-six hours apart, which is more than a day. That is why the Line Islands can be in tomorrow while parts of the Pacific are still in yesterday, and both endpoints appear in the city list.
