This calculator converts an Amount from one currency to another using two live-updated rates: Exchange Rate (the To-per-From cross-rate) and a hidden From-per-USD rate used only for the USD reference figure. Converted Amount is Amount times Exchange Rate -- both inputs move it by an equal share, since it's a plain product of the two, so a larger Amount or a higher Exchange Rate each produce a roughly proportional increase in Converted Amount. Amount is the one input that actually moves Value in USD: that figure is Amount divided by the From-per-USD rate, a formula the on-screen Exchange Rate never enters into at all -- editing Exchange Rate changes only how many units of the To currency you receive, not the equivalent USD value of what you're converting. The reverse is true for Inverse Rate, which is always 1 divided by Exchange Rate: Amount plays no role in it whatsoever, no matter how much money you're converting. Exchange Rate auto-populates from a live feed when you pick a From/To currency pair, but you can type over it with your own rate to model a different quote, a bank markup, or a historical rate. This tool does not account for transaction fees, spreads charged by card networks or exchange services, or rate volatility between the moment you check and the moment you actually convert.
