Board Feet
144 BF
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the Log Diameter at the small end in inches and the Log Length in feet.
- Select the Log Rule: Doyle (common for hardwoods), Scribner (softwoods), or International 1/4-Inch (most accurate).
- Review Board Feet under your chosen rule and compare all three scales in the chart.
- Check Cubic Volume and Lumber Recovery percentage to understand wood utilization efficiency.
- Use the Board Feet by Diameter chart to quickly look up yield for other log sizes at the same length.
How the result changes with Log Diameter (small end)
| Log Diameter (small end) | Board Feet |
|---|---|
| 9.6 | 31 BF |
| 24 | 400 BF |
| 40 | 1,296 BF |
| 54 | 2,500 BF |
What each input means
- Log Diameter (small end)
- Diameter inside bark at the small end of the log in inches.
- Log Length
- Length of the log in feet. Standard log lengths are 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 feet.
- Log Rule
- Scaling rule: 1 = Doyle (common in hardwoods), 2 = Scribner (common in softwoods), 3 = International 1/4-Inch (most accurate).
