How to Use This Calculator
  1. Start by filling in the input fields below. Results update instantly as you type, so you can experiment with different values to see how they affect the outcome.
  2. Total Distance — Round-trip driving distance. Use Google Maps for an estimate. Accepts values from 1 miles to 10,000 miles (default: 500 miles).
  3. Fuel Efficiency — Your vehicle's miles per gallon. Check fueleconomy.gov for your car. Accepts values from 5 MPG to 100 MPG (default: 28 MPG).
  4. Gas Price — Current average gas price per gallon in your area. Accepts values from $1 /gal to $10 /gal (default: $3.5 /gal).
  5. Passengers (incl. driver) — Total travelers including the driver, used to split costs. Accepts values from 1 to 10 (default: 2).
  6. Expand "Advanced Options" for additional fine-tuning. These optional inputs let you model more specific scenarios:
  7. Total Tolls — Estimated total toll fees for the entire trip. Accepts values from $0 to $500 (default: $30).
  8. Hotel Cost/Night — Average nightly hotel rate. Set to $0 for day trips. Accepts values from $0 to $500 (default: $120).
  9. Hotel Nights — Number of nights you'll need lodging. Accepts values from 0 to 30 (default: 2).
  10. Meals/Day per Person — Daily food budget per person (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Accepts values from $0 to $200 (default: $40).
  11. Travel Days — Total days of travel including stops and the destination. Accepts values from 0 to 30 (default: 3).
