About this calculator
EPDM is a rubber membrane roof, seamed with adhesive tape rather than the heat welding used on PVC and TPO, so this calculator's attachment logic branches three ways depending on how the membrane is held down: fully adhered systems need bonding adhesive, mechanically fastened systems need a fastener count, and ballasted systems need river-rock ballast weight instead of either. Membrane Needed now folds the Waste Factor directly into the sheet quantity -- matching its own helpText's promise of "including overlaps and waste" -- so it, and the Est. Material Cost built from it, both rise as you raise the waste allowance.
Roof Area, by contrast, is pure length-times-width geometry and never moves with membrane thickness, sheet width, attachment method, or waste factor. Attachment method changes which accessory line item appears in the cost total -- Bonding Adhesive (gal) only shows a nonzero value under fully adhered, Mechanical fasteners only under mechanically fastened -- while Seam Tape Rolls, Termination Bar, and the base membrane cost apply under every attachment method equally, since seams and perimeter edges need to be sealed regardless of how the field of the membrane is held down.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my estimated cost change when I only moved the waste factor slider?
Membrane Needed (sqft) now includes the Waste Factor (%) directly, matching its own description ("Total EPDM membrane including overlaps and waste"). Because Est. Material Cost is built from Membrane Needed, raising the waste factor raises both -- at this calculator's defaults, moving waste from 0% to 25% adds roughly 1,000 sqft of membrane and several hundred dollars to the estimate.
Does switching attachment method change my roof area or sheet count?
No -- Roof Area (sqft), Membrane Needed (sqft), and Number of Sheets all come from roof dimensions and sheet width alone. Attachment (0=Adhered, 1=Mech, 2=Ballast) only changes which accessory cost applies: Bonding Adhesive for fully adhered, mechanical fasteners for mechanically fastened, or ballast weight for ballasted systems.
Why don't Seam Tape Rolls and Termination Bar change with attachment method?
Every EPDM installation needs sealed seams and a terminated perimeter edge regardless of how the field membrane is held down -- adhesive, mechanical fasteners, or ballast all still require Seam Tape Rolls and Termination Bar (pcs). Only the field-attachment accessory (adhesive, fasteners, or ballast) changes between the three methods.
How does EPDM's seaming method differ from PVC or TPO?
EPDM is a rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer) membrane seamed with adhesive tape and lap sealant at 6-inch overlaps, not heat-welded like PVC or TPO's thermoplastic membranes. That's why this calculator tracks Seam Tape Rolls and Lap Sealant Tubes instead of a weld-tester requirement.
