Tincture Strength Calculator
Calculate herb and solvent quantities for making tinctures at your desired strength ratio and batch volume.
Inputs

Herb Weight
100 grams
Solvent Volume
500 mL
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your desired strength ratio (1:X, e.g., 1:5 means 1 part herb to 5 parts solvent).
- Set the batch volume in mL.
- The calculator shows herb weight in grams, solvent volume in mL, herb percentage, and recommended maceration time in weeks.
- Combine weighed herb and measured solvent in a sealed jar, shake daily, and strain after the indicated maceration period.
How the result changes with Strength Ratio (1:X)
| Strength Ratio (1:X) | Herb Weight | Solvent Volume |
|---|---|---|
| 1.9 | 263.2 grams | 500 mL |
| 4.15 | 120.5 grams | 500 mL |
| 6.85 | 73 grams | 500 mL |
| 9.1 | 54.9 grams | 500 mL |
What each input means
- Strength Ratio (1:X)
- Herb-to-solvent ratio expressed as 1:X. Lower numbers are stronger: 1:3 is strong (fresh herbs), 1:5 is standard, 1:10 is weak.
- Batch Volume
- Total volume of solvent (alcohol) for the tincture in milliliters. Common sizes: 250 mL, 500 mL, 1000 mL.
- Herb-to-Solvent Override
- Optional override: herb weight as a percentage of solvent volume. Set to 0 to use the strength ratio instead. 10-20% is common.
How this is calculated
Worked example, using the default values
- Identify Input ParametersStrength Ratio (1:X) = 5, Batch Volume = 500, Herb-to-Solvent Override = 0 = 3 input(s) provided
- Calculate Herb Weight100 = 100
- Calculate Solvent Volume500 = 500
- Calculate Herb PercentageHerb Percentage20 = 20
- Calculate Recommended MacerationRecommended Maceration4 = 4
