Kiln Firing Schedule
Calculate total firing time, peak temperature, and cooling time based on target cone, ramp rate, hold time, and kiln size.

Firing Time (Ramp + Hold)
12.6 hrs
Peak Temperature
2,232 F
How to Use This Calculator
- Select your target firing range: 1 for cone 06 (low-fire), 2 for cone 6 (mid-fire), or 3 for cone 10 (high-fire).
- Enter your desired ramp rate in °F/hr — 100–200 F/hr for bisque, 200–300 F/hr for glaze firings.
- Enter the hold time at peak temperature in minutes (10–30 min for most firings).
- Select kiln size: small, medium, or large — larger kilns heat more slowly and require more time.
- Read the total firing time in hours (ramp + hold), the peak temperature in °F, and estimated cooling time.
- Add the firing and cooling hours together to plan when to start your firing so you can unload safely.
How the result changes with Ramp Rate
| Ramp Rate | Firing Time (Ramp + Hold) | Peak Temperature |
|---|---|---|
| 95 | 26.3 hrs | 2,232 F |
| 208 | 12.2 hrs | 2,232 F |
| 343 | 7.5 hrs | 2,232 F |
| 455 | 5.7 hrs | 2,232 F |
What each input means
- Target Cone
- Select firing range: 1 = Cone 06 (1828F, low-fire), 2 = Cone 6 (2232F, mid-fire), 3 = Cone 10 (2345F, high-fire).
- Ramp Rate
- Temperature increase rate in degrees Fahrenheit per hour. 100-200 is typical for bisque; 200-300 for glaze firings.
- Hold Time at Peak
- Minutes to hold at peak temperature for heat work. 10-30 min is common for most firings.
- Kiln Size
- Kiln size: 1 = Small (test/hobby), 2 = Medium (studio), 3 = Large (production). Larger kilns heat more slowly.
