Newsletter ROI Calculator
Calculate subscriber value from engagement and conversion metrics.
About this calculator
A newsletter's revenue potential runs through a funnel, and each stage only captures a fraction of the stage before it. This calculator applies open rate to your total subscriber count to estimate opens, click rate to those opens to estimate clicks, and conversion rate to those clicks to estimate actual purchases, then multiplies conversions by average order value to arrive at Revenue per Send. Because that revenue is calculated for a single email, Annual Revenue simply multiplies it by 52 to model a weekly send cadence — if you send less often, scale that figure down proportionally rather than trusting it as-is.
Subscriber LTV takes a different angle: it multiplies revenue per subscriber by 52 weeks and then by 1.5, modeling an assumed 18-month average subscriber retention window before someone unsubscribes or stops engaging. None of these figures account for list churn during that period, seasonal swings in open and click rates, or the fact that acquiring a subscriber has its own cost that isn't factored in here — this is a revenue-side estimate only, not a full return-on-investment calculation net of acquisition and platform costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Annual Revenue assume exactly 52 sends per year?
The calculator models a single email's revenue and multiplies it by 52 to represent a weekly newsletter cadence, which is a common publishing rhythm. If your actual send frequency is different — say, twice a month or daily — scale the multiplier accordingly rather than relying on the 52 figure as written.
How does Subscriber LTV account for how long someone stays subscribed?
It multiplies revenue per subscriber per send by 52 weeks and then by 1.5, which models an assumed 18-month average subscriber lifetime before they unsubscribe or stop engaging. That retention window is a general assumption rather than a figure pulled from your specific list's actual churn behavior.
Does this calculator account for subscribers who unsubscribe over time?
Not directly — the underlying subscriber count is treated as fixed across the annual projection, and only the Subscriber LTV figure builds in an assumed retention period. A list with high churn will underperform this projection more than one with a loyal, long-tenured subscriber base.
Is Revenue per Send the same as actual profit from the newsletter?
No — it's gross revenue attributable to conversions from a single send, with no subtraction for the cost of acquiring those subscribers, the email platform's subscription fee, or the time spent producing the content. Treat it as a top-line revenue estimate to compare against those costs separately, not a net profit figure.
