How to Use This Calculator
- Enter BPM, Note Value, and Dotted (0=No, 1=Yes).
- Set Tuplet (0=None, 3=Triplet, 5=Quintuplet).
- Review the Duration (ms) result.
- Use Duration (sec) and Frequency (Hz) to inform your decision.
- Use the chart to visualize the results and explore different scenarios by adjusting inputs.
How the result changes with BPM
| BPM | Duration |
|---|---|
| 41 | 1,463.41 ms |
| 141 | 425.53 ms |
| 260 | 230.77 ms |
| 360 | 166.67 ms |
What each input means
- BPM
- The tempo in beats per minute.
- Note Value
- 1=Whole, 2=Half, 4=Quarter, 8=Eighth, 16=Sixteenth.
- Dotted (0=No, 1=Yes)
- A dotted note adds 50% to its duration.
- Tuplet (0=None, 3=Triplet, 5=Quintuplet)
- Tuplet grouping. 3=triplet (3 in space of 2), 5=quintuplet (5 in space of 4).
How this is calculated
Worked example, using the default values
- Identify Input Parameters4 parametersBPM = 120, Note Value = 4, Dotted (0=No, 1=Yes) = 0, Tuplet (0=None, 3=Triplet, 5=Quintuplet) = 0 = 4 input(s) provided
- Calculate DurationDuration = 0500 = 500
- Calculate DurationDuration = 00.5 = 0.5
- Calculate FrequencyFrequency = 02 = 2
