About this calculator

This calculator builds an express (bath-and-tidy) service time from a base bath-and-blow-dry time that scales with Dog Size Class, plus a coat-specific time add-on and however many of the three optional add-ons (nail trim, ear cleaning, sanitary trim) are included. Dog Size Class is by far the largest driver of Express Service Time -- the base bath time alone quadruples from the smallest to the largest size class, and larger dogs also cross the thresholds that add extra nail-trim and sanitary-trim time, compounding the size effect. Coat Type adds a fixed number of minutes for extra brushing/drying (a double coat needs the most, a smooth coat needs none), but that add-on isn't ordered from least to most time as you move through the option list, so it doesn't move the total in one consistent direction the way toggling an add-on service does.

Express Price is calculated as a percentage of Full Groom Price -- 40% as a base rate, plus 5 percentage points for each of the three optional add-ons included -- so Full Groom Price is the input Express Price responds to most; each individual add-on toggle moves the percentage by a smaller, fixed amount. Full Groom Time is estimated as 2.2x the express time for the same dog, used only to compute the full-groom revenue comparison. This calculator uses generic per-size and per-coat-type time estimates -- your own groomers' actual speed, the individual dog's temperament, and your specific service standards will shift real appointment times.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Dog Size Class affect Express Service Time so much more than Coat Type?

Base bath-and-blow-dry time quadruples from the smallest size class to the largest, and larger dogs also cross the thresholds that increase nail-trim and sanitary-trim time -- multiple effects compounding together. Coat Type only adds a fixed number of extra minutes for brushing and drying, a smaller and single effect by comparison.

Why doesn't Coat Type always increase time as you go through the options?

The coat-type time add-on isn't ordered from least to most -- a double coat needs the most extra time, followed by curly/wool, then wire/harsh, with smooth coats needing none. Because the add-on amounts aren't sorted in the same order as the option list, moving from one coat type to the next doesn't consistently raise or lower Express Service Time the way toggling an add-on service does.

Why does Express Price depend mostly on Full Groom Price rather than the add-ons?

Express Price is calculated as a percentage of Full Groom Price -- a 40% base rate plus 5 percentage points for each optional add-on included, up to 55% with all three. Because Full Groom Price is the number being multiplied, changing it moves Express Price by more than toggling any single add-on, which only shifts the percentage by a fixed 5-point increment.

Why is Full Groom Time estimated rather than entered directly?

Full Groom Time is estimated as 2.2x the calculated Express Service Time for the same dog, used only to compute the Full Groom $/hour and Full Groom Daily Revenue comparison figures. It's a planning estimate for comparing service models, not a substitute for your salon's actual average full-groom appointment length.

What doesn't this calculator account for?

It uses generic per-size and per-coat-type time estimates rather than your specific groomers' actual speed, an individual dog's temperament or matting condition, or your salon's specific service standards -- all of which shift real appointment times and, in turn, real daily capacity and revenue.
