Menstrual Cycle Tracker Calculator

Track your menstrual cycle, predict ovulation day, fertile window, and next period based on cycle length and variation.

About this calculator

Average Cycle Length, Period Duration, Last Period Start (day of month), and Cycle Variation feed this estimate of ovulation timing, fertile window, and cycle regularity. Estimated Ovulation is calculated as Cycle Length minus a fixed 14-day luteal phase, so it -- along with the Fertile Window that surrounds it (five days before ovulation through one day after) and Follicular Phase Length, which equals the ovulation day itself -- responds only to Average Cycle Length; Period Duration, Last Period Start, and Cycle Variation have no effect on where ovulation or the fertile window fall within the cycle. Luteal Phase Length works differently: real luteal phases vary far less between cycles than follicular phases do, so this calculator holds it at a fixed 14 days regardless of Cycle Length or any other input, rather than deriving it.

Next Period (est. day of month) instead uses real calendar-date arithmetic, adding Cycle Length in days to your Last Period Start date to project the day of the following month your next period should begin. Cycle Regularity Score converts Cycle Variation into a 0-100 score using the formula (1 - variation/10) x 100, so a Cycle Variation of 0 days scores 100 (perfectly regular) while a variation of 10 days or more scores 0. Estimated Lower Fertility Window reports the days between the end of your period and the start of the fertile window -- described as "estimated" and "not a guarantee of infertility" because ovulation timing genuinely varies and no day in a natural cycle is entirely risk-free.

How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter Average Cycle Length, Period Duration, and Last Period Start (day of month).
  2. Set Cycle Variation.
  3. Review the Estimated Ovulation (cycle day) result.
  4. Use Fertile Window Start (cycle day) and Fertile Window End (cycle day) to inform your decision.

What each input means

Average Cycle Length
Number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.
Period Duration
How many days your menstrual bleeding typically lasts.
Last Period Start (day of month)
Day of the month your last period started.
Cycle Variation
How many days your cycle typically varies from month to month.

What each result means

Estimated Ovulation (cycle day)
Predicted ovulation day within your cycle, counting from day 1 of your period.
Fertile Window Start (cycle day)
First day of your fertile window.
Fertile Window End (cycle day)
Last day of your fertile window.
Fertile Window Length
Total number of high-fertility days per cycle.
Next Period (est. day of month)
Estimated day of the month for your next period.
Follicular Phase Length
Days from period start to ovulation.
Luteal Phase Length
Days from ovulation to next period (typically ~14 days).
Estimated Lower Fertility Window
Estimated days between end of period and start of fertile window. This is not a guarantee of infertility.
Cycle Regularity Score
Score from 0-100 based on your cycle variation (higher = more regular).

How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Identify Input Parameters
    4 parameters
    Average Cycle Length = 28, Period Duration = 5, Last Period Start (day of month) = 1, Cycle Variation = 1 = 4 input(s) provided
  2. Calculate Estimated Ovulation
Estimated Ovulation = cycleLength - lutealPhase
    14 = 14
  3. Calculate Fertile Window Start
    Fertile Window Start = max(1, ovulationDay - 5)
    9 = 9
  4. Calculate Fertile Window End
    Fertile Window End = ovulationDay + 1
    15 = 15

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't Period Duration change my Estimated Ovulation date?

Estimated Ovulation is calculated purely from Average Cycle Length minus a fixed 14-day luteal phase -- Period Duration never enters that formula. It only affects the Estimated Lower Fertility Window figure, which measures the gap between when your period ends and when the fertile window begins, so a longer period shortens that particular gap without moving ovulation itself.

What determines my Cycle Regularity Score?

Cycle Regularity Score comes entirely from Cycle Variation, the number of days your cycle typically varies month to month, using the formula (1 minus variation divided by 10) times 100. A Cycle Variation of 0 days produces a perfect 100 score, a variation of 5 days produces 50, and a variation of 10 days or more produces a score of 0, reflecting a highly unpredictable cycle.

How is my next period's calendar date estimated?

Next Period (est. day of month) takes your Last Period Start day, builds an actual calendar date from it (assuming the current month unless that date is still in the future, in which case it steps back to the previous month), then adds your Average Cycle Length in days using real date arithmetic and reports the resulting day of the month.

Does a longer Fertile Window mean I'm more fertile?

No -- Fertile Window Length always comes out to seven days (the day of ovulation, five days before it, and one day after) for every input combination in the valid range, since the calculator uses a fixed biological window based on typical sperm survival time and egg viability, not a measure of your personal fertility strength.
