Global PSQI Score

4 / 21

Poor Sleeper (Score > 5)

0 (0=No, 1=Yes)

Worst Component1 (1=Quality, 2=Latency, 3=Duration, 4=Efficiency, 5=Disturbance, 6=Medication, 7=Dysfunction)
How to Use This Calculator
  1. Rate each of the 7 PSQI component questions: subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, duration, efficiency, disturbances, medication use, and daytime dysfunction.
  2. Base your answers on your typical sleep over the past month.
  3. Review the Global PSQI Score: 0–5 = good sleeper, 6+ = poor sleeper.
  4. Check Worst Component to identify the primary driver of poor sleep for targeted intervention.
  5. Combine with PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores to assess whether sleep problems are driving mood and anxiety issues.

What each input means

Subjective Sleep Quality
0 = Very good, 1 = Fairly good, 2 = Fairly bad, 3 = Very bad.
Sleep Latency
0 = ≤15 min to fall asleep, 1 = 16-30 min, 2 = 31-60 min, 3 = >60 min.
Sleep Duration
0 = >7 hours, 1 = 6-7 hours, 2 = 5-6 hours, 3 = <5 hours.
Sleep Efficiency
0 = ≥85% efficiency, 1 = 75-84%, 2 = 65-74%, 3 = <65%.
Sleep Disturbances
0 = Not during past month, 1 = Less than once a week, 2 = Once or twice a week, 3 = Three or more times a week.
Daytime Dysfunction
0 = No problem, 1 = Only a slight problem, 2 = Somewhat of a problem, 3 = A very big problem.

How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Identify Input Parameters
    4 parameters
    Subjective Sleep Quality = 1, Sleep Latency = 1, Sleep Duration = 0, Sleep Efficiency = 0 = 7 input(s) provided
  2. Calculate Global PSQI Score
    Global PSQI Score
    4 = 4
  3. Calculate Poor Sleeper
    Poor Sleeper
    0 = 0
  4. Calculate Worst Component
    Worst Component
    1 = 1
