Gas Fee Estimator

Estimate Ethereum transaction costs based on gas price, gas limit, and ETH price. Compare costs for transfers, swaps, mints, and deployments.

About this calculator

Ethereum transaction fees are the product of two independent numbers: Gas Price, which the network sets moment-to-moment based on how congested it is, and Gas Limit, which is a fixed property of what the transaction actually does. This calculator multiplies the two together and divides by one billion to convert from gwei (a billionth of an ETH) into whole ETH, then multiplies by the ETH Price to get a US dollar figure. Gas Limit defaults to an automatic value based on your selected Transaction Type -- a simple transfer needs only 21,000 gas units, while a contract deployment can need well over a million -- but you can override it directly if you know the exact gas your transaction will use.

Gas Price is the dominant, fast-moving lever here: it changes constantly with network demand and directly scales the fee in ETH terms, while ETH Price has no effect at all on the ETH-denominated fee (only on its dollar value) since it only enters the calculation after the ETH amount is already fixed. Max Fee assumes a worst-case doubling of gas price to model a sudden demand spike, and Priority Fee estimates the additional tip needed for faster inclusion. Because gas prices and ETH's dollar value both change constantly, every number here is only as current as the values you enter -- check a live gas tracker and price source rather than relying on the illustrative defaults.

How to Use This Calculator
  1. Select the transaction type (transfer, swap, mint, or contract deploy) -- this sets a typical gas limit automatically.
  2. Leave Gas Limit at 0 to use that typical value, or enter your own to override it.
  3. Set the current gas price in Gwei and the ETH price in USD.
  4. Review the estimated gas fee in USD.
  5. Wait for low gas periods (evenings or weekends) or use gas trackers to time transactions.

What each input means

Gas Price
Current network gas price in gwei. Check etherscan.io/gastracker for live prices.
Gas Limit
Gas units for the transaction. Leave at 0 to use the typical value for the selected Transaction Type below, or enter your own to override it.
ETH Price
Current price of ETH in USD.
Transaction Type
Type of transaction affects gas usage.

What each result means

Gas Fee (ETH)
Transaction cost in ETH.
Gas Fee (USD)
Transaction cost in US dollars.
Max Fee (USD)
Worst-case fee assuming 2x gas price spike.
Priority Fee (USD)
Estimated miner tip for faster inclusion.
Est. Confirmation

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the ETH Price not change my Gas Fee (ETH) at all?

Gas Fee (ETH) is calculated purely from Gas Price and Gas Limit -- the network cost of the transaction expressed in its own native unit, ETH. ETH Price only enters the picture in a second, separate step, converting that already-fixed ETH amount into US dollars for Gas Fee (USD). Raising or lowering the ETH Price changes how many dollars that fee is worth, but it can never change how much ETH the network actually charges.

What does leaving Gas Limit at 0 actually do?

A Gas Limit of 0 tells the calculator to use the typical gas usage for whichever Transaction Type you selected -- 21,000 for a simple transfer, up to 1,500,000 for a contract deployment. If you enter any nonzero Gas Limit yourself, that value overrides the Transaction Type's typical figure entirely, which is useful when you know the exact gas your specific transaction will consume from a wallet simulation or block explorer.

Why is Max Fee (USD) always exactly double Gas Fee (USD)?

Max Fee models a worst-case scenario where gas prices spike to twice their current level between when you submit a transaction and when it's confirmed -- a real risk during periods of sudden network congestion. It's a simple 2x multiplier on the estimated fee rather than a live prediction, so treat it as a conservative upper bound to budget for rather than a precise forecast of what you'll actually pay.

Why do gas prices and my fee estimate change so much from day to day?

Gas Price is set by an auction among everyone trying to get a transaction included in the next block, so it rises sharply during periods of high network demand -- major NFT mints, token launches, or DeFi activity spikes -- and falls during quiet periods like weekends or overnight hours in major time zones. Because this calculator has no way to know the current network conditions, it relies on you entering an up-to-date Gas Price from a live tracker rather than assuming a fixed 'normal' level.
