Fasting Calendar Calculator
Plan a spiritual fasting schedule. Choose intermittent, full-day, or Daniel fast and calculate total fasting hours, meals skipped, and calendar span.
About this calculator
This calculator handles three distinct fasting patterns with different hour logic for each, so the "effective fasting hours per day" behind the scenes isn't a single formula — it's a lookup based on which fast type you select. Intermittent fasting uses the fasting-window hours you enter directly (e.g., 16 for a 16:8 pattern). A full-day fast is always treated as 24 fasting hours, since no eating window applies. A Daniel fast — the biblical partial fast that restricts diet rather than eliminating it — is counted as roughly 14 hours of "significant dietary restriction" as a rough proxy, since it isn't a true hours-based fast at all; that number is a stand-in, not a measured quantity.
Total fasting days comes from your calendar duration converted to weeks, multiplied by your chosen fasting days per week and rounded to a whole day. Meals skipped only applies cleanly to intermittent and full-day fasts: a full-day fast skips all 3 meals, an intermittent fast skips 0-2 meals depending on how long the window is (skipping fewer meals below 14 hours, more as the window stretches past 20), and a Daniel fast is treated as replacing meals rather than skipping them, so it always reports zero meals skipped even though the diet itself is restricted all day. Know before you rely on this: the hour figures for full-day and Daniel fasts are fixed estimates baked into the calculator, not something you can fine-tune, and the eating-window figure only means something for the intermittent option.

How to Use This Calculator
- Select the Fast Type (full, partial, liquid-only, or intermittent).
- Enter Duration in calendar days and, for intermittent fasting, Fasting Hours per Day and Days per Week.
- Review Total Fasting Days, Total Fasting Hours, and Daily Eating Window (hrs).
- Check Total Meals Skipped to prepare nutritionally for the fast.
- Use Calendar Span to mark the fast on your calendar with start and end dates.
How the result changes with Duration (calendar days)
| Duration (calendar days) | Total fasting days | Total fasting hours |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | 11 | 176 |
| 16 | 16 | 256 |
| 32 | 32 | 512 |
| 53 | 53 | 848 |
What each input means
- Fast type
- The type of fast you plan to observe.
- Duration (calendar days)
- Total calendar days for your fasting plan (e.g., 21-day or 40-day fast).
- Fasting hours/day (intermittent)
- Hours of fasting per day for intermittent fasting (e.g., 16 for 16:8 pattern). Ignored for full-day/Daniel fasts.
- Fasting days per week
- Number of days per week you will fast (rest days excluded).
What each result means
- Total fasting days
- Number of days you will actually fast during the plan.
- Total fasting hours
- Cumulative hours spent fasting over the entire plan.
- Daily eating window (hrs)
- Hours available for eating each fasting day.
- Calendar span (days)
- Total calendar duration from start to end of the fast.
- Total meals skipped
- Estimated number of meals foregone during the fast.
- Fasting days/week
- Number of fasting days each week.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't the Fasting Hours/Day input do anything if I choose Full-day or Daniel fast?
Because effectiveFastingHoursPerDay is set by a fixed lookup based on fast type, not by your fastingHoursPerDay input, except when Fast Type is Intermittent. Full-day is hardcoded to 24 hours and Daniel fast to 14 hours, so the field only matters for intermittent fasting — it's ignored for the other two types, exactly as its helper text warns.
Why does the Daniel fast always show zero meals skipped even though it's a restrictive diet?
The meals-skipped logic treats the Daniel fast as replacing meals rather than skipping them, so it's hardcoded to 0 regardless of your other inputs. That's a deliberate modeling choice, not a bug — a Daniel fast still involves eating three meals a day, just with a restricted list of foods, so 'meals skipped' isn't a meaningful concept for it the way it is for intermittent or full-day fasting.
How is Total Fasting Days calculated from a calendar duration and fasting days per week?
The calculator converts your duration in calendar days to weeks (durationDays / 7), multiplies by your fasting days per week, and rounds to the nearest whole day. For a 21-day plan fasting all 7 days a week, that's all 21 days; if you only fast 5 days a week, the tool prorates that across partial weeks too.
Why does the Daily Eating Window show 0 hours for a full-day fast but 10 hours for a Daniel fast?
Eating window is only really calculated for intermittent fasting, as 24 minus your fasting-hours input. For a full-day fast it's fixed at 0 since there's no eating window by definition, and for a Daniel fast it's fixed at 10 as a rough stand-in, since that fast isn't structured around an hours-based eating window at all — it's a food-restriction fast, not a time-restriction one.
