Small Group Multiplication Calculator

Groups Needed comes from dividing your target number of people to reach (Total Attendance times Target Participation) by how many people fit in each group (Target Group Size). More attendance means more people to place into groups, so it raises the count needed; a bigger Target Group Size means each group holds more people, so fewer groups are needed to reach the same total -- they're on opposite sides of the same division, which is why one raises the result and the other lowers it.

No -- Groups Needed is calculated purely from your attendance and participation target, independent of how many groups already exist. Current Groups only affects Groups to Add (the gap between what you need and what you have) and New Leaders Needed (since existing groups already have leaders in place); it never changes the underlying capacity target itself.

Group multiplication compounds exponentially in group count, but Months to Reach Target only scales linearly with Multiply Cycle -- the number of 1.5x cycles needed to clear Groups Needed depends purely on the gap between Current Groups and Groups Needed, never on how long each cycle takes. So shortening Multiply Cycle from 12 months to 6 months cuts Months to Reach Target in half, exactly, for the same starting gap. What does compound is the group count itself: starting further from your target needs disproportionately more cycles (each cycle only adds 50% more groups), which is why two churches with the same Multiply Cycle but different Current Groups can see very different Months to Reach Target.

It's fixed regardless of Target Group Size -- this calculator assumes every group, whether it holds 4 people or 20, needs exactly one leader and one co-leader for healthy shepherding and a built-in succession path. If your ministry model uses a different staffing ratio (say, one leader per 8 members with no co-leader requirement), adjust New Leaders Needed manually rather than relying on this figure directly.
