CKD Stage (KDIGO)
1
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the patient's eGFR (mL/min/1.73m2) from a recent lab report.
- Enter the urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR in mg/g): <30 normal, 30-300 moderate, >300 severe.
- Enter the patient's age (years).
- Read the CKD stage per KDIGO (G1 through G5) and the corresponding risk level (1-4).
- Review the 5-year progression risk (%) and recommended monitoring frequency (times per year).
How the result changes with eGFR (mL/min/1.73m²)
| eGFR (mL/min/1.73m²) | CKD Stage (KDIGO) |
|---|---|
| 20 | 4 |
| 70 | 2 |
| 130 | 1 |
| 180 | 1 |
What each input means
- eGFR (mL/min/1.73m²)
- Estimated glomerular filtration rate.
- Urine Albumin-Creatinine Ratio (mg/g)
- UACR: <30 normal (A1), 30-300 moderate (A2), >300 severe (A3).
- Age (years)
- Patient age in years.
What each result means
- CKD Stage (KDIGO)
- 1=G1, 2=G2, 3=G3a, 3.5=G3b, 4=G4, 5=G5.
- KDIGO Risk Level (1-4)
- 1=Low (green), 2=Moderate (yellow), 3=High (orange), 4=Very high (red).
- 5-Year Progression Risk
- Estimated risk of CKD progression over 5 years.
- Recommended Monitoring
- KDIGO-recommended monitoring frequency per year.
How this is calculated
Worked example, using the default values
- Identify Input ParameterseGFR (mL/min/1.73m²) = 90, Urine Albumin-Creatinine Ratio (mg/g) = 10, Age (years) = 50 = 3 input(s) provided
- Calculate CKD Stage1 = 1
- Calculate KDIGO Risk LevelKDIGO Risk Level = riskMatrix[gfrCategory - 1][albuminCategory - 1]1 = 1
- Calculate 5-Year Progression Risk5-Year Progression Risk = min(100, round((1 - pow(1 - annualProgressionRisk, 5)) * 10000) / 100)4.9 = 4.9
