How to Use This Calculator
  1. Start by filling in the input fields below. Results update instantly as you type, so you can experiment with different values to see how they affect the outcome.
  2. Focal Length — The focal length of your lens in millimeters. Accepts values from 4 mm to 2,000 mm (default: 50 mm).
  3. Aperture (f-stop) — The f-number of the lens aperture. Lower values mean a wider opening. Accepts values from f/0.7 to f/64 (default: f/2.8).
  4. Distance to Subject — Distance from the camera to the subject in meters. Accepts values from 0.1 m to 10,000 m (default: 3 m).
  5. Sensor Size — The sensor format of your camera. Affects the circle of confusion calculation. Choose from: Full Frame (36mm), APS-C (23.5mm), Micro Four Thirds (17.3mm), 1-inch (13.2mm). default: 1.
  6. Once all inputs are set, review your results in the Results panel. Here's what each output means:
  7. Near Focus Limit — shown as a numeric value. This is the primary result of this calculator.
  8. Total Depth of Field — your calculated result. This is the primary result of this calculator.
  9. Far Focus Limit — your calculated result.
  10. Hyperfocal Distance — shown as a numeric value.
