Land measure is what most of these ten columns are for. Alongside the plain metric and imperial squares — m², cm², km², ft², in², yd² — sit the acre at 4046.86 m², the hectare at exactly 10,000 m², the square mile at 2,589,990 m², and the survey section, which carries the identical factor because a section of the US Public Land Survey is nominally one square mile, or 640 acres. Whatever you type is converted to square metres and redistributed across the whole set. Note the word nominally. Real PLSS sections are not all 640 acres: correction lines, convergence of meridians and closure error leave short sections along township boundaries, and a deed calling for a quarter-section may be describing meaningfully less than 160 acres. The section column is a definition, not a survey. Beyond that, area alone determines nothing about shape or perimeter, so it will not tell you fence length or wall run. The roofing square of 100 ft², the board foot, and the are of 100 m² are all absent, and no adjustment is made for slope, so a hillside parcel's true surface exceeds its mapped footprint.
