How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the Route Length (ft) — the total length of the accessible path between accessible entrances and elements.
- Set Max Slope (%) to the steepest running slope along the route; ADA allows a maximum of 5% for accessible routes.
- Enter Minimum Width (inches) at the narrowest point — ADA requires 36 inches minimum, 44 inches preferred.
- Set Surface Type: 1=Concrete, 2=Asphalt (both compliant), or 3=Gravel (non-compliant).
- Review the Overall Score (%) — 100% means all three criteria pass; any failed criterion drops the score significantly.
- Use individual compliance scores (Slope, Width, Surface) to identify which element needs remediation.

What each input means
- Route Length (ft)
- Total length of the accessible route in feet
- Max Slope (%)
- Maximum running slope as percentage. ADA allows 5% max for walking surfaces.
- Minimum Width (inches)
- Narrowest point of the route. ADA requires 36" minimum, 44" preferred.
- Surface (1=Concrete, 2=Asphalt, 3=Gravel)
- ADA requires firm, stable, and slip-resistant surfaces. Gravel is non-compliant.
