How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the Car Width and Car Depth in inches to define the cab dimensions.
- Input the Door Clear Width and select Door Type (center-opening or side-opening).
- Set the Control Panel Height and Door Dwell Time (seconds).
- Review the ADA Compliance Score (%) and any specific items flagged for correction.
- Cross-reference with ADA Standards for Accessible Design Section 4.10 before permit submission.
How the result changes with Car depth (inches)
| Car depth (inches) | ADA compliance (%) |
|---|---|
| 39 | 67 |
| 62 | 100 |
| 89 | 100 |
| 111 | 100 |
What each input means
- Car width (inches)
- Interior width of the elevator car in inches.
- Car depth (inches)
- Interior depth of the elevator car in inches.
- Door clear width (inches)
- Clear opening width of the elevator door.
- Door type
- 0 = Center-opening (min 80" wide car), 1 = Side-opening (min 68" wide).
- Control panel height (inches)
- Height of highest operable button from car floor.
- Door dwell time (seconds)
- Time doors remain open at each stop.
What each result means
- ADA compliance (%)
- Percentage of ADA checks passed (100% = fully compliant).
- Width compliant
- 1 = meets minimum width requirement, 0 = non-compliant.
- Depth compliant
- 1 = meets minimum 51" depth, 0 = non-compliant.
- Door width compliant
- 1 = meets minimum 36" clear door opening, 0 = non-compliant.
- Controls compliant
- 1 = button height within 35"-48" range, 0 = non-compliant.
- Door dwell compliant
- 1 = door dwell time >= 3 seconds, 0 = non-compliant.
- Wheelchair turning OK
- 1 = sufficient space for wheelchair turning, 0 = insufficient.
- Car area (sq ft)
- Interior floor area of the elevator car.
- Stretcher capable
- 1 = can accommodate a stretcher (24"×84" clear), 0 = cannot.
