In-Game Currency Converter

Convert real money to in-game currency and calculate the true cost of virtual items.

About this calculator

Game publishers price virtual currency in bundles specifically to make the real cost of an item hard to compare at a glance -- you spend dollars on "gems" or "coins" at one exchange rate, then spend those gems on items priced in round gem numbers that rarely divide evenly back into dollars. This calculator reverses that obfuscation: it converts your purchase into an effective currency-per-dollar rate, then divides your target item's price by that rate to show its real dollar cost. Bonus currency from first-purchase promotions or bundle deals directly improves your effective rate, since you're getting more in-game currency for the same real money -- a 50% bonus effectively cuts your real cost per item by roughly a third, not by 50%, because the bonus currency stacks on top of the base amount rather than discounting the price you paid.

The calculator also tracks currency you can't spend: after buying as many of your target item as your total currency allows, whatever's left over is currency you paid real money for but can't currently use on anything -- so-called "orphaned" currency that publishers rely on to inflate effective revenue per purchase. Spending Efficiency captures this directly: it's the share of your real money that actually went toward something you could buy, versus money effectively wasted on currency you're stuck holding until your next purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a 50% currency bonus not cut my real cost per item by half?

Because the bonus is added on top of the base currency amount, not applied as a discount to the item's price. A 50% bonus turns 1,000 coins into 1,500 coins for the same money, which lowers your real cost per item by the same ratio the currency increased -- roughly a third, not a half. To actually halve your cost per item you'd need a 100% bonus (double currency for the same price).

What does Leftover Currency actually cost me?

It's currency you already paid real money for but can't spend on your target item, because it's less than one item's full price. Wasted Money converts that leftover back into real dollars using your effective exchange rate, so you can see exactly how much of your purchase is sitting unusable until you either buy something cheaper or top up with another purchase.

Why does Currency per Dollar change when I add a bonus, but Real Money Spent doesn't?

Currency per Dollar (the effective rate) is computed from the TOTAL currency you receive, including any bonus, divided by what you paid -- so a bonus directly raises this rate. Real Money Spent is simply what you entered as the purchase price; it's an input, not a calculated result, so it only changes when you change the purchase amount itself.

Is Spending Efficiency the same thing as getting a good deal on the currency pack?

Not quite -- they measure different things. Spending Efficiency measures how much of THIS purchase's money went toward something you could actually buy, versus currency left stranded below your item's price. A currency pack can have an excellent exchange rate (lots of coins per dollar) and still show low spending efficiency if the leftover after buying your target item is a large fraction of what you bought.
