TCG Deck Value Calculator

Calculate the total cost of a trading card game deck from card rarity counts and average prices.

About this calculator

This calculator prices a trading card game deck the way a player actually builds one: by rarity tier rather than card-by-card, since market prices cluster tightly within a rarity but vary enormously across tiers. It multiplies your count of Rares/Mythics, Uncommons, Commons, and Special/Foil cards each by their own average market price, sums the four tier totals into a cards-only figure, and then adds sleeves, deck box, playmat, and other accessories on top for a full out-of-pocket total. Average card value divides the cards-only total by total card count, which is a genuinely useful sanity check — a deck where that average sits far above what a single common or uncommon costs usually means the rare and foil counts are inflated relative to a typical constructed decklist.

The rarity distribution percentage shows what share of your total card count is rares, letting you compare against typical deck archetypes (aggro decks often run fewer rares than control or combo decks that lean on expensive bombs). Because this is an average-price model rather than a card-by-card lookup, it can't capture the reality that a handful of chase cards — a single alternate-art secret rare, for instance — sometimes dwarf the rest of a deck's value combined; if your deck has one or two outlier cards, it's more accurate to enter them under Special/Foil at their real price rather than folding them into a tier average that will understate them. This tool estimates replacement cost at current market prices, not resale value, which is typically lower due to buylist margins.

How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter the count and average price for Rares/Mythics, Uncommons, Commons, and Special/Foil cards.
  2. Enter the cost of Sleeves & Accessories to include protective gear in the total.
  3. Review the Total Deck Cost to understand your investment in the deck.
  4. Compare deck value against tournament entry fees to assess competitive viability.
  5. Use the breakdown to identify whether rare or special cards dominate the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the calculator use average price per rarity tier instead of pricing each card individually?

Market prices tend to cluster tightly within a rarity tier while varying enormously across tiers, so an average-price model captures most of a deck's real value with far less data entry than a card-by-card lookup. The tradeoff is that it can't represent a single outlier card — like an alternate-art secret rare — whose price sits far above its tier's typical price; those should be entered separately under Special/Foil at their real price rather than averaged in with cheaper cards of the same rarity.

What does the Avg Card Value output tell me that Total Deck Cost doesn't?

Avg Card Value divides the cards-only total by total card count, giving a per-card average that's a useful sanity check on your inputs: if that average sits far above what a single common or uncommon typically costs, it usually means your rare or foil counts (or their prices) are inflated relative to a realistic constructed decklist, even if the grand total looks plausible.

Does Total Deck Cost include anything beyond the cards themselves?

Yes — it's cardTotal (the sum of all four rarity tiers) plus whatever you enter for Sleeves & Accessories, covering things like sleeves, a deck box, a playmat, dice, and tokens. Cards Only, by contrast, reports just the four rarity-tier totals summed together, with no accessory cost included, so use that figure if you specifically want to compare card investment against something like a tournament entry fee.

Is this the price I'd get if I sold the deck?

No. The calculator prices replacement cost at current market prices — what it would cost to buy an equivalent deck today — not resale or buylist value. Buylist prices from card shops or online buyers are typically well below market price because the buyer needs their own margin, so actually selling a deck priced here will generally net noticeably less than the Total Deck Cost figure.
