Meditation Timer & Progression Calculator
Calculate optimal session length and track progression for building a sustainable meditation practice.
About this calculator
Recommended Session and Weeks to Goal are both prescriptive, not descriptive -- they project where a typical practitioner at your Experience Level should be after a given number of Weeks of Regular Practice, independent of what your Current Session Length actually is right now. Experience Level sets both the starting-point duration (5 minutes for Beginner up to 30 for Advanced) and the weekly increase rate (fastest for Developing practitioners, at 1.5 minutes a week), so it has a far larger effect on both outputs than Weeks of Practice alone does -- changing Experience Level can move Recommended Session by dozens of minutes, while adding a handful of weeks moves it by only a minute or two. Current Session Length and Sessions per Week never feed the recommendation math (Recommended Session, Weeks to Goal) at all, but they do drive everything that tracks your actual logged practice: Weekly Practice Time, Monthly Practice Time, and Total Practice Hours all three feed from Current Session Length and Sessions per Week together (doubling Current Session Length alone moves Total Practice Hours from 7 to 13 at the default settings), and Next Milestone comes from Current Session Length on its own.
Consistency Score compares Sessions per Week against a target of 3 (Beginner/Developing) or 5 (Experienced/Advanced) sessions -- itself set by your Experience Level -- capped at 100%. This tool assumes a steady, linear-then-capped progression; real practice plateaus and setbacks aren't modeled, so use the output as a benchmark rather than a fixed schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't my Current Session Length change the Recommended Session?
Recommended Session is a target benchmark computed purely from your Experience Level and Weeks of Regular Practice -- it describes where a typical practitioner at that stage should be, not where you personally are today. Current Session Length is tracked separately, feeding Weekly Practice Time, Monthly Practice Time, Total Practice Hours, and Next Milestone instead.
Why does Experience Level matter more than Weeks of Regular Practice?
Experience Level sets both your starting point (5 minutes for Beginner versus 30 for Advanced) and your weekly increase rate, so moving between levels can shift Recommended Session by dozens of minutes at once. Adding a few more Weeks of Regular Practice only nudges the figure up by a minute or two at that rate.
Does Sessions per Week affect Weeks to Goal?
No. Weeks to Goal is calculated from the gap between your Recommended Session and Goal Session Length divided by your Experience Level's weekly increase rate. Sessions per Week instead feeds Weekly Practice Time, Monthly Practice Time, Total Practice Hours, and Consistency Score, which measure how often you're actually sitting down, not how quickly your recommended duration should grow.
How is Consistency Score calculated?
It compares your Sessions per Week against a target -- 3 sessions for Beginner and Developing levels, 5 for Experienced and Advanced -- expressed as a percentage and capped at 100%. Meditating more often than your level's target still shows 100%, not a score above it.
