This assessment has you self-rate 0-10 on seven gift categories drawn from Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4 — teaching, serving, leadership, mercy, giving, exhortation, and administration — and turns those seven numbers into a simple profile. The total score (out of a possible 70) and overall engagement percentage just sum and normalize your ratings, giving a rough sense of how strongly you identify with spiritual giftedness generally rather than any one area. The more interesting output is the gift diversity index, which is built from the statistical spread (standard deviation) of your seven scores around their mean: a low standard deviation — scores clustered close together — produces a high diversity index near 100, meaning your gifting reads as broadly balanced across categories, while a high standard deviation, where a few scores are much higher than the rest, produces a low diversity index, meaning your gifting reads as concentrated or specialized.
Primary gift strength simply reports your single highest-rated gift as a percentage of the 10-point maximum. This is a self-report inventory, not a validated psychometric instrument — your own ratings are all it has to work with, so results reflect self-perception and can shift depending on mood, recent experiences, or how literally you interpret each gift's description. Frequently Asked Questions
How exactly is the gift diversity index calculated from my seven scores?
The calculator finds the mean of your seven gift scores, then computes the standard deviation of how far each score falls from that mean, and finally normalizes it so 0 standard deviation maps to a diversity index of 100 (perfectly balanced) and a standard deviation of 4 or more maps to 0 (highly specialized). In practical terms, rating yourself the same number (say, 5) across all seven categories produces a diversity index of 100, while rating one gift a 10 and the rest 0 produces a very low index.
Can two people with the same total score get very different diversity indexes?
Yes — total score only reflects the sum of your seven ratings, while diversity index reflects how evenly spread those ratings are around their average. Someone scoring 7 across all seven categories (total 49) and someone scoring 10 on three gifts and 3 on four gifts (also totaling 49) would land on very different diversity indexes despite an identical total score, because the second profile has a much larger standard deviation.
What does 'primary gift strength %' actually measure?
It's simply your single highest-rated gift's score divided by the maximum possible score of 10, expressed as a percentage — so a top score of 8 produces a primary gift strength of 80%. It says nothing about how that gift compares to your other six scores; that comparison is what the diversity index is for instead.
Is this a scientifically validated spiritual gifts test?
