How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter the model weight (g) from your slicer's estimated usage.
  2. Set the spool weight (kg) and spool purchase price to calculate cost per gram.
  3. Enter your waste percentage to account for support material and purge lines.
  4. Review cost per print, total filament used including waste, and estimated prints per spool.

How the result changes with Model Weight

Model WeightFilament Used (incl. waste)Cost per Print
1,0011,051.05 g$21.02
3,5013,676.05 g$73.52
6,5006,825 g$136.50
9,0009,450 g$189.00

What each input means

Model Weight
Total weight of the printed model in grams (from slicer estimate).
Spool Weight
Net filament weight per spool (typically 1000g for a 1kg spool).
Spool Price
Purchase price for one spool of filament.
Waste Percentage
Estimated waste from supports, purge lines, skirts, and failed prints.

How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Identify Input Parameters
    4 parameters
    Model Weight = 50, Spool Weight = 1000, Spool Price = 20, Waste Percentage = 5 = 4 input(s) provided
  2. Calculate Filament Used
    Filament Used
    52.5 = 52.5
  3. Calculate Cost per Print
    Cost per Print
    1.05 = $1.05
  4. Calculate Prints per Spool
    Prints per Spool
    19 = 19
  5. Calculate Waste per Print
    Waste per Print
    2.5 = 2.5
