Target Stroke Rate
31 spm
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your target distance in meters (e.g., 2000 m for the standard 2k race distance).
- Set your target time in minutes for that distance.
- Select your skill level from novice through elite to calibrate power output estimates.
- Read Target Stroke Rate (spm) — use this as your on-water or erg pacing target.
- Check 500m Split Time to program your rowing machine or GPS pace display.
- Review Estimated Power (watts) to compare against your previous training benchmarks.
How the result changes with Target Distance
| Target Distance | Target Stroke Rate |
|---|---|
| 4,310 | 28 spm |
| 14,833 | 22 spm |
| 27,462 | 22 spm |
| 37,986 | 22 spm |
What each input means
- Target Distance
- Total rowing distance in meters. Common race distances: 500m (sprint), 2000m (Olympic), 5000m, 6000m (head race).
- Target Time
- Desired completion time in minutes. For a 2k, sub-7:00 is competitive for male rowers, sub-7:30 for female rowers.
- Skill Level
- 1 = Beginner (learning technique), 2 = Novice (consistent form), 3 = Intermediate (club level), 4 = Advanced (competitive), 5 = Elite.
What each result means
- Target Stroke Rate
- Recommended strokes per minute for your target pace and distance.
- Split Time (per 500m)
- Time in seconds to cover 500 meters at your target pace. This is the standard rowing benchmark.
- Est. Average Power
- Estimated average watts based on the Concept2 power-to-pace formula.
- Rating Category
- 1 = Paddle (≤20 spm), 2 = Steady State (21-26), 3 = Tempo (27-32), 4 = Race (33+).
