How to Use This Calculator
  1. Select Pool Length (25m or 50m) and enter Time per Length in seconds.
  2. Enter Strokes per Length (one arm stroke per count).
  3. Review Stroke Rate (strokes per minute), Distance per Stroke (DPS), and Swim Speed.
  4. Check SWOLF Score and Stroke Index to benchmark stroke efficiency.
  5. Use Pace per 100m to compare across different stroke rate experiments.

How the result changes with Time per Length

Time per LengthStroke Rate
2151.4 strokes/min
4922 strokes/min
8213.2 strokes/min
1099.9 strokes/min

What each input means

Pool Length
Length of the pool in meters. Standard short course is 25m, long course is 50m.
Time per Length
Time to complete one length of the pool in seconds. Use a stopwatch or pace clock for accuracy.
Strokes per Length
Count each arm entry as one stroke. Do not count the push-off or final touch.

How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Identify Input Parameters
    Pool Length = 25, Time per Length = 25, Strokes per Length = 18 = 3 input(s) provided
  2. Calculate Stroke Rate
    Stroke Rate
    43.2 = 43.2
  3. Calculate Distance per Stroke
    Distance per Stroke = d
    1.39 = 1.39
  4. Calculate Swim Speed
    Swim Speed
    1 = 1
