Square metres act as the hinge: whatever you enter is scaled into square metres and then redistributed across eight columns. Unlike a linear-distance table, the factors stored here are truncated to four significant figures rather than kept exact. A square foot is held as 0.0929 m² when the exact value implied by a 0.3048 m foot is 0.09290304, which is why the default entry of 1000 ft² returns a suspiciously tidy 92.9 m² instead of 92.90304. The gap is about 33 parts per million — irrelevant when you are pricing carpet, worth knowing before you submit a boundary survey. Land units carry their traditional relationships: an acre is 43,560 square feet, a hectare is a flat 10,000 m² and works out near 2.471 acres, and a square mile holds 640 acres by definition — though this page's truncated factors put its own output at 639.99941 rather than a flat 640. Square Inches can be chosen as an entry unit but prints no column of its own, so small areas come back in square centimetres. Column precision is uneven, with square miles carried to six decimals and acres, hectares and square kilometres to five. What this will not do is derive an area for you: there is no length and width to multiply, no perimeter, no roofing square, and no distinction drawn between the international acre and the slightly larger US survey acre that older deeds were written against.
