How to Use Our Running Pace Calculator

Whether you are training for a 5K or a marathon, pace is the metric that drives your training. Our Running Pace Calculator converts between distance, time, and pace in seconds.

Three Calculation Modes

Find Your Pace

Enter your distance and finish time to see your pace per mile or kilometer. Ran 3.1 miles in 24 minutes? Your pace is 7:44 per mile.

Predict Finish Time

Enter your distance and target pace to see your predicted finish time. Want to run a marathon at 9:00/mile pace? Expect a finish time of about 3:55:50.

Find Distance

Enter your time and pace to see how far you could run. Running for 45 minutes at 8:30/mile pace covers about 5.3 miles.

Race Time Predictions

Use the calculator to set realistic race goals. If you ran a 5K in 25 minutes (8:03/mile pace), you can estimate longer race times by adding roughly 5-10% per mile for the increased distance:

  • 10K: approximately 52-54 minutes
  • Half Marathon: approximately 1:55-2:00
  • Marathon: approximately 4:00-4:15

Training Application

Knowing your pace lets you structure workouts effectively:

  • Easy runs: 60-90 seconds slower than race pace
  • Tempo runs: 15-30 seconds slower than race pace
  • Intervals: 15-30 seconds faster than race pace
