How this is calculated

Worked example, using the default values

  1. Ground Speed
    GS = TAS − Headwind (or + Tailwind)
    120 − (0) = 120 kt
  2. Flight Time
    Time = Distance ÷ Ground Speed
    250 NM ÷ 120 kt = 125 min (2.08 hr)
  3. Fuel Used
    Fuel = Flight Time × Burn Rate
    2.08 hr × 10 gal/hr = 20.8 gal (125 lb)
  4. Fuel Cost
    Cost = Fuel Used × Price Per Gallon
    20.8 × $6.50 = $135.42
  5. Round Trip
    Return at GS with opposite wind, then total both legs
    Outbound: 125 min, Return: 125 min = 41.7 gal, $270.83, 250 min
