Session Duration Planner
Calculate optimal massage session length based on focus areas, goals, and add-on services.
About this calculator
This calculator builds a suggested booking length by adding up time blocks and then snapping the total to the nearest standard session slot. Active Massage Time is Number of Focus Areas multiplied by a per-area minute rate set by Primary Goal -- 12 minutes for relaxation or sports recovery, 15 minutes for pain relief, and 18 minutes for injury rehab (line 10-11) -- so Time per Focus Area always equals that same per-area rate exactly, no matter how many focus areas are selected, since it is just Active Massage Time divided back out by the same Number of Focus Areas that produced it (line 31).
Hot Stones, Aromatherapy, and Assisted Stretching each add a fixed block of minutes -- 10, 5, and 10 respectively -- entirely independent of Number of Focus Areas or Primary Goal (lines 14-16), and Intake & Transition is a flat 8 minutes (5 for intake, 3 for transition) that never changes regardless of any input (lines 19-20). Calculated Total Time sums all of those blocks (line 22), and Recommended Session then picks whichever of five standard lengths -- 30, 60, 75, 90, or 120 minutes -- sits closest to that total (lines 25-28), so a small change near the midpoint between two standard lengths can jump the recommendation by a full 15 or 30 minutes even though the underlying total barely moved.

How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the client's primary treatment goals and the number of target areas.
- Select any add-on services: Hot Stones, Aromatherapy, or Assisted Stretching.
- Review the Recommended Session length, snapped to standard booking slots (30, 60, 75, 90, or 120 minutes).
- Review the time allocated per region and whether the planned sequence fits within the session.
- Leave 5-10 minutes of buffer at the end for client positioning, payment, and rebooking.
How the result changes with Number of Focus Areas

|---|---|
| 1.5 | 30 min |
| 2.25 | 30 min |
| 4.5 | 60 min |
| 6 | 75 min |

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Time per Focus Area stay the same no matter how many areas I add?
Time per Focus Area is Active Massage Time divided back out by Number of Focus Areas (line 31), and Active Massage Time was built by multiplying that same Number of Focus Areas by a fixed per-area rate in the first place (line 11). Dividing back out simply returns that fixed rate -- 12, 15, or 18 minutes depending on Primary Goal -- so adding more focus areas changes Active Massage Time but never Time per Focus Area.
Why is Intake & Transition always 8 minutes?
Intake & Transition combines two hardcoded constants -- 5 minutes for intake and 3 minutes for draping and repositioning between areas (lines 19-20) -- neither of which is derived from any input on the form. Every combination of Number of Focus Areas, Primary Goal, and add-on services produces the identical 8-minute figure.
Why did adding one more focus area jump my Recommended Session from 30 to 60 minutes?
Recommended Session is not a smooth scale -- it snaps Calculated Total Time to whichever of five fixed slots (30, 60, 75, 90, or 120 minutes) is numerically closest (lines 25-28). If your total sits near the midpoint between two of those slots, adding even one more focus area's worth of minutes can tip the total past that midpoint and flip the recommendation to the next standard length, even though the underlying total time only changed by a few minutes.
Do Hot Stones, Aromatherapy, and Assisted Stretching change based on how many focus areas I select?
No -- each add-on contributes a fixed number of minutes regardless of Number of Focus Areas or Primary Goal: 10 minutes for Hot Stones, 5 minutes for Aromatherapy, and 10 minutes for Assisted Stretching (lines 14-16). Add-On Service Time simply sums whichever of those three are toggled on, with no scaling by the size or goal of the session.
