How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the area in sq ft and slab thickness in inches (4 in standard, 5–6 in for heavy traffic).
- Select pattern complexity: 1=basic (brick, tile), 2=moderate (ashlar, cobblestone), 3=premium (European fan, random stone).
- Enter the number of colors including the base and any accent colors.
- Read Concrete Needed (cu yd), Color Hardener (lbs), Release Agent (lbs), and Sealer (gal) for your material list.
- Review Material Cost versus Labor Cost to understand where the project budget is allocated.
- Use Total Estimated Cost and Cost per Sq Ft to finalize customer quotes.
How the result changes with Area (sq ft)
| Area (sq ft) | Total estimated cost ($) |
|---|---|
| 5,001 | $37,311.22 |
| 17,501 | $130,570.61 |
| 32,500 | $242,474.42 |
| 45,000 | $335,733.81 |
What each input means
- Area (sq ft)
- Total surface area to be stamped in square feet.
- Slab thickness (inches)
- Concrete slab thickness. Standard is 4 inches; heavy-traffic areas use 5-6 inches.
- Pattern complexity (1-3)
- 1 = basic (brick, tile), 2 = moderate (ashlar, cobblestone), 3 = premium (European fan, random stone).
- Number of colors
- Base color plus accent colors. More colors require heavier hardener application.
- Waste factor (%)
- Material waste allowance. 10% is standard; irregular shapes may need 15-20%.
What each result means
- Total estimated cost ($)
- Combined material and labor cost for the stamped concrete project.
- Cost per sq ft ($)
- All-in cost per square foot including materials, labor, and waste.
- Concrete needed (cu yd)
- Ready-mix concrete volume including waste factor.
- Color hardener (lbs)
- Dry-shake color hardener broadcast onto fresh concrete.
- Release agent (lbs)
- Powder release agent to prevent stamps from sticking.
- Sealer (gallons)
- Acrylic sealer for two coats at ~175 sq ft per gallon.
- Material cost ($)
- Total cost of concrete, hardener, release agent, and sealer.
- Labor cost ($)
- Estimated labor based on pattern complexity and number of colors.
How this is calculated
Worked example, using the default values
- Identify Input Parameters4 parametersArea (sq ft) = 500, Slab thickness (inches) = 4, Pattern complexity (1-3) = 1, Number of colors = 1 = 5 input(s) provided
- Calculate Total estimated costTotal estimated cost = materialCost + laborCost3730.38 = $3,730.38
- Calculate Cost per sq ft7.46 = $7.46
- Calculate Concrete neededConcrete needed = concreteVolumeCuYd * (1 + wastePct / 100)6.79 = 6.79
