About this calculator
This calculator gives a starting-point wheelchair seat width from a single hip measurement, meant to be refined by a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) or rehabilitation clinician, never used as the final prescription. Est. seat width divides Hip width by 2.5, rounds that up to the next whole number, multiplies back by 2.5, and adds another 2.5cm of clearance -- a step-wise formula that lands on the common 2.5cm seat-width increments frame manufacturers actually offer, so small changes to Hip width often produce the same result until the rounding threshold is crossed.
Desired seat depth is a completely separate measurement in this tool: it is only echoed back unchanged (after being kept within its own 35-60cm range) for reference alongside the seat width, and it never factors into the Est. seat width calculation at all -- proper seat depth comes from the user's thigh length, measured from the back of the pelvis to behind the knee, not from hip width. Clothing bulk, postural asymmetry, growth allowance for pediatric users, and cushion thickness are not modeled here; treat the output as a rough frame-width range to bring into a clinical fitting, not a final order specification.

Est. seat width rounds up to the nearest 2.5cm increment that wheelchair frame manufacturers commonly offer, so a small change in Hip width often lands inside the same increment and the displayed result only moves once your measurement crosses that threshold.
Can I use this result to order a wheelchair frame directly?
