Body Composition Calculator

Complete body analysis: BMI, body fat percentage, ideal weight, daily calories (TDEE), and macro targets. Get all your fitness metrics in one comprehensive calculator.

Seven separate calculators share one input form here, and they draw on different subsets of it. Everything is converted to kilograms and centimetres first, then BMI, a healthy-weight window at BMI 18.5 to 24.9, body fat, lean and fat mass, four ideal-weight formulas, a Mifflin-St Jeor energy chain and a waist-to-hip ratio are each derived independently. Body fat has two routes. Enter a waist and neck measurement — plus a hip measurement if Female is selected — and the US Navy circumference formula runs; leave them blank and a BMI-based approximation runs instead, which is why the category row is tagged as an estimate and why age nudges the figure in that mode but not the other. The strongest single lever on Target Calories is the Activity Level dropdown, worth 1,216 calories across its five settings on the default profile, far more than any measurement you can adjust. Your Goal selection moves Target Calories by up to 800 and reshapes the macro split, but it never touches BMR or TDEE, which are computed before it applies. Two results behave in ways worth knowing. Ideal Weight is derived from height and gender alone — averaging the Robinson, Miller, Devine and Hamwi formulas — so it does not respond to your actual weight at all; the Weight Status line is what compares the two, and it only speaks up beyond a 5 lb or 2 kg tolerance. And Protein per kg falls as weight rises, because protein is a share of calories rather than a per-kilogram prescription. Circumference-based body fat carries roughly a three to four point error against DEXA, and the BMI route is looser still.

How to Use This Calculator
  1. Choose Imperial or Metric under Unit System, then fill in the matching weight and height fields.
  2. Select your gender and enter your age.
  3. Pick an activity level and a goal — the activity level moves your calorie target most.
  4. Optionally add waist and neck circumference, plus hip if female, to switch body fat to the Navy formula.
  5. Read BMI, Body Fat, Lean Body Mass, Ideal Weight, TDEE, Target Calories and the macro grams together.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the calculator use the Navy formula instead of the BMI estimate?

Only when it has the measurements it needs: waist and neck for a male profile, and waist, neck and hip for a female one. Miss any of those and it falls back to the BMI-based approximation, tagging the Body Fat Category row so you can tell which route produced the number.

Why doesn't Ideal Weight change when I change my weight?

Because it is not a target derived from your body — it averages four published height-based formulas, Robinson, Miller, Devine and Hamwi, all of which read only your height and gender. The Weight Status line is the row that compares your entry to it, and it stays quiet inside a 5 lb or 2 kg band.

Which input changes my calorie target the most?

The Activity Level dropdown. Its five settings span multipliers of 1.2 to 1.9, which is a 1,216 calorie spread on the default profile — more than the goal adjustment and more than any plausible correction to your height or weight. An honest, slightly conservative choice matters more than precise measurements.

Why do BMR and TDEE ignore my goal?

They are computed earlier in the chain. Mifflin-St Jeor produces BMR from weight, height, age and gender, the activity multiplier converts that into TDEE, and the goal's adjustment — minus 500 for fat loss, plus 300 for muscle gain — is applied last to yield Target Calories. Those first two rows stay fixed as you compare goals.

Why does Protein per kg fall when I enter a heavier weight?

Protein is pegged to a share of the calorie total, not to each kilogram you carry. Extra body mass adds only 10 kcal through the basal equation while enlarging the divisor by a whole kilogram, so the ratio drifts down — compare it against the 1.6 to 2.2 g/kg guidance on that row if muscle gain is your goal.
