How to Use This Calculator
- Enter semen analysis values: volume (mL), sperm concentration (M/mL), total motility (%), progressive motility (%), and normal morphology (%).
- Set your age and BMI, and indicate whether you have a varicocele or smoke.
- Review Fertility index (0–100) as a composite score of all semen parameters.
- Check Total motile sperm count (M) and TMSC category to understand IVF/IUI applicability.
- Use Normal parameters (out of 6) to identify which values fall below WHO reference limits.
What each input means
- Age
- Your current age.
- Semen volume (mL)
- Ejaculate volume in milliliters. WHO lower ref: 1.4 mL.
- Sperm concentration (M/mL)
- Sperm concentration in millions per mL. WHO lower ref: 16 M/mL.
- Total motility (%)
- Percentage of motile sperm (any movement). WHO lower ref: 42%.
- Progressive motility (%)
- Percentage of progressively motile sperm. WHO lower ref: 30%.
- Normal morphology (%)
- Percentage of normally shaped sperm (strict criteria). WHO lower ref: 4%.
- Varicocele present (0=No, 1=Yes)
- 1 if diagnosed with varicocele.
- Smoker (0=No, 1=Yes)
- 1 if you currently smoke.
- BMI
- Body mass index.
What each result means
- Fertility index (0-100)
- Composite fertility score based on all semen parameters and lifestyle factors.
- Total sperm count (M)
- Total sperm count in millions. WHO lower ref: 39M.
- Total motile sperm count (M)
- TMSC = volume x concentration x motility. Key fertility predictor.
- TMSC category (0/1/2)
- 0=normal (>20M), 1=subfertile/IUI (5-20M), 2=IVF/ICSI territory (<5M).
- Normal parameters (out of 6)
- How many semen parameters meet WHO reference limits.
- Classification (0-3)
- 0=normozoospermia, 1=mild subfertility, 2=moderate, 3=severe.
- Volume normal? (1=Yes)
- 1 if volume meets WHO lower reference limit.
- Concentration normal? (1=Yes)
- 1 if concentration meets WHO lower reference limit.
- Motility normal? (1=Yes)
- 1 if total motility meets WHO lower reference limit.
- Morphology normal? (1=Yes)
- 1 if morphology meets WHO lower reference limit.
