How to Use This Calculator
  1. Enter T (tumor), N (node), and M (metastasis) classifications along with the tumor size in centimeters.
  2. Enter the number of positive lymph nodes and the total nodes examined to get the lymph node ratio and nodal staging adequacy check (≥12 nodes recommended).
  3. Read the overall stage (0 through IV) and the TNM composite code, computed from a simplified general AJCC-pattern staging model.
  4. Review the estimated tumor volume and the rough 5-year survival estimate for the calculated stage.
  5. This is a simplified, non-cancer-site-specific model — confirm staging against official AJCC criteria for the specific cancer type with your care team.

What each input means

T stage (0=Tis, 1–4)
Primary tumor stage: 0 = in situ, 1–4 increasing size/invasion.
N stage (0–3)
Regional lymph node involvement: 0 = none, 1–3 increasing burden.
M stage (0 or 1)
Distant metastasis: 0 = none, 1 = present. M1 automatically = Stage IV.
Tumor size (cm)
Longest diameter of the primary tumor in centimeters.
Positive lymph nodes
Number of lymph nodes with cancer involvement.
Total nodes examined
Total lymph nodes examined pathologically (≥12 recommended for many cancer types).

Combined stage: 0 = in situ, I–IV using simplified AJCC grouping.
TNM composite code
Numeric TNM code (T×100 + N×10 + M) for quick reference.
Tumor volume (cm³)
Estimated spherical tumor volume from diameter.
Lymph node ratio
Positive nodes / total examined. Higher ratio = worse prognosis in many cancers.
Nodal staging adequate (0/1)
1 if ≥12 nodes examined (recommended minimum for many tumor types).
Est. 5-year survival (%)
Very rough general solid tumor 5-year relative survival estimate by stage. Actual rates vary widely by cancer type.
