How to Use This Calculator
  1. Follow the step-by-step wizard — complete each step before moving to the next. This guided approach ensures you provide all the necessary information in a logical order.
  2. Calculator Mode — Calculation mode to use. Choose from: Full Carbon Footprint, Commute Emissions, EV vs Gas Comparison, Carbon Offset Calculator. default: 0.
  3. Miles Driven / Year — enter a number in mi. Accepts values from 0 mi to 100,000 mi (default: 12,000 mi).
  4. Vehicle MPG — enter a number in mpg. Accepts values from 5 mpg to 100 mpg (default: 28 mpg).
  5. Monthly Electricity — US average ~900 kWh/month Accepts values from 0 kWh to 10,000 kWh (default: 900 kWh).
  6. Monthly Natural Gas — enter a number in therms. Accepts values from 0 therms to 500 therms (default: 50 therms).
  7. Round-Trip Flights / Year — enter a numeric value. Accepts values from 0 to 50 (default: 2).
  8. One-Way Commute Distance — enter a number in mi. Accepts values from 0 mi to 200 mi (default: 25 mi).
  9. Days Per Week — enter a numeric value. Accepts values from 1 to 7 (default: 5).
  10. Weeks Per Year — enter a numeric value. Accepts values from 1 to 52 (default: 50).
  11. Vehicle MPG — enter a number in mpg. Accepts values from 5 mpg to 100 mpg (default: 30 mpg).
  12. Commute Type — enter your preferred option from the dropdown. Choose from: Solo Car, Carpool, Public Transit, Bike/Walk, Hybrid (WFH Mix). default: 0.
  13. Annual Miles — enter a number in mi. Accepts values from 1,000 mi to 100,000 mi (default: 12,000 mi).
  14. Gas Vehicle MPG — enter a number in mpg. Accepts values from 10 mpg to 60 mpg (default: 28 mpg).
  15. EV Efficiency — enter a number in mi/kWh. Accepts values from 2 mi/kWh to 6 mi/kWh (default: 3.5 mi/kWh).
  16. Gas Price — enter a dollar amount. Accepts values from $1 to $10 (default: $3.5).
  17. Electricity Price — enter a number in /kWh. Accepts values from $0.05 /kWh to $0.5 /kWh (default: $0.14 /kWh).
  18. CO₂ to Offset — US average is ~16 tons/person Accepts values from 1 tons/yr to 100 tons/yr (default: 16 tons/yr).
  19. Offset Project Type — enter your preferred option from the dropdown. Choose from: Forest Conservation ($12/ton), Renewable Energy ($8/ton), Direct Air Capture ($600/ton), Methane Capture ($15/ton), Community Projects ($20/ton). default: 0.
  20. Expand "Advanced Options" for additional fine-tuning. These optional inputs let you model more specific scenarios:
  21. Meals with Meat / Week — enter a numeric value. Accepts values from 0 to 21 (default: 7).
  22. Household Size — enter a numeric value. Accepts values from 1 to 10 (default: 2).
  23. EV Purchase Price — enter a dollar amount. Accepts values from $20,000 to $150,000 (default: $45,000).
  24. Gas Vehicle Price — enter a dollar amount. Accepts values from $15,000 to $100,000 (default: $35,000).
